Tired of Googling for Homeschool Art Classes Near Me?
Me, too! There is nothing quite as fun as watching children learn to draw, paint, and express their ideas through many different creative mediums. When one strikes a cord and they want to dig deeper, it can be daunting to find just the right class.
Around here, art classes run anywhere from $25 to $40 per hour per person. With two art loving kids and an art loving mama, that just isn't feasible. But I found an amazing online option and The Masterpiece Society Studio is, pardon the pun, a work of art!
The Masterpiece Society Membership also includes access to The Beautiful Life Community, my favorite online place to share home education life and learning with other Christian mamas!
Degas and Art Based Homeschool Curriculum
Those two lovely pictures above are Mr. T and Mr. F's creations from a Degas Mixing with the Masters session on Still Life with 7 Apples. Mr. T really focused on making his brush strokes bold and mottled like Degas. Mr. F got frustrated that his wasn't perfect because he hurried and got the paint colors all muddied. So he added bright yellow dots the next day to jazz it up. Kids are funny, y'all!
Alisha beautifully weaves art history and art appreciation throughout the lessons. Her stories of Degas and his friend Emile Zola add to the delightful art lessons in the Degas portion of Mixing with the Masters. Being able to let the boys work with the video lessons on the iPad while I pick up or work on my own lessons is an incredible blessing.
There are multiple types of lessons in The Masterpiece Society Studio. Acrylic, mixed media, watercolor, drawing, pastels. There are even 101 style sets of lessons opening up soon where you have a whole class dedicated to drawing, acrylics, watercolors, and more! This online art curriculum really does have something for everyone in your family and one membership fee covers everyone. You won't find that deal at a local art studio!
You can see that our homeschool art studio setup is very simple. The ability to stream the lessons on an iPad instead of my computer allow me to worry less about a computer accidentally getting damaged and give the boys some responsibility for following the lesson without me hovering. That isn't to say I don't help, but I can step back because they love the lessons and the art work results, and they have become better at keeping themselves on task. Art lessons for the win!
The Masterpiece Society is also appropriate for a myriad of ages. It is a homeschool art curriculum middle school and high school aged students will enjoy and learn from, but it done in a way that even preschoolers can have fun with it! The only drawback we found was that with so many options for lessons, it can be difficult to choose which one to do and you may often find yourself hopping from one course to another to try something new.
The Best Homeschool Online Art Curriculum
There are so many homeschool art curriculum reviews out there, what on earth can help you decide if the Masterpiece Society is right for you? How about a free lesson to create a stunning impressionist style bluebird! This is actually on our lesson plan for next week. Isn't it beautiful?
Alisha is personable, funny, and gentle in her instruction of the student. The lessons cover a vast number of styles, mediums, subject matter, and eras. The membership covers your whole family. Including MOM! Seriously. You need to be creating too, mom. Alisha has added a monthly project just for moms and they are lovely.
